Indigenous technique in converting old oil drums into wheelbarrows
Wheelbarrows are an essential tool for anyone who needs to move large amounts of material around, whether dirt, mulch, gravel, or anything else. They make the job much more accessible than carrying everything by hand, and they’re also great for hauling things up or down stairs.
In many developing countries, old oil drums are often repurposed into wheelbarrows. This is because they are sturdy and durable, making them ideal for carrying heavy loads. Plus, they are readily available and relatively cheap.
To convert an oil drum into a wheelbarrow, the first step is to cut off one end of the drum. This will create an opening that can pour in concrete or sand to weigh down the wheelbarrow. The next step is to cut out two handles on either side of the drum. Finally, two wheels need to be attached to the bottom of the drum to make it mobile.
With a bit of effort, an old oil drum can be turned into a valuable and practical wheelbarrow. This upcycling solution is not only good for the environment but also for the budget.
