A hydraulic pump is a mechanical device that converts mechanical energy into hydraulic energy. It uses a plunger to create a vacuum that draws fluid into a chamber. The chamber is then pressurized by the plunger, which forces the fluid through a check valve and into a hydraulic cylinder or motor.

The function of the hydraulic pump fails when the seal between the pump and the cylinder is damaged.
